Abstractions from the Microscopic Series (2012)
This is one of a series of works in folded sheet metal which was influenced by the unseen world of the microscopic; viruses and nanoparticles that are too small to be seen with the naked eye. Their amazing forms are beautiful but potentially deadly.
Viruses have the ability to lock onto their hosts, infecting them and then use the infected cells own resources to multiply rapidly
The modular construction and forming using rivets were influenced by the late Sir Anthony Caro and Richard Deacon. This 3D abstract form was produced from 2D sheet metal using industrial forming equipment.
