This multi-media sculpture plays with space creating optical illusions through geometric patterns. A sphere appears to be held with its dish like structure and the random patterning confuses the eye producing a shift in directional depth and gives the illusion of a greater surface area within.
The work was produced for ' Chalk' 10 days Winchester 2015 and was shown at The Winchester Gallery. It discusses the historical use of chalk for play and the properties of the simple chalk line, and its degree of non-permanence in that it is easily rubbed out and movable, which lends itself to playful change, the essence of which is reflected by the optical illusions of the geometric patterning.

This work was constructed using geometric patterning in clay formed over a plaster mould, which was then cast using Jesmonite, an acrylic polymer, and laminated with several layers of fiberglass to produce a robust impact resistant sculptural form with a recessed surface patterning. This was then was filled with a mixture of chalk, Jesmonite and Photoluminescent Pigments.
