This large scale installation work explores space through screen printed heat formed plastic creating optical illusions with Moiré Pattern, which gives one a sense of the physics of space. There is a suggestion of the organic in this work which brings to mind membranes and life bursting forth from light and dark spaces.
" I felt as if I wanted to stretch and peel back space and examine the possibility that it could be occupied by more than one volume at the same time; perhaps even by parallel worlds."
Through Sarah's research into topology and psychoanalysis, she learnt that each individual’s perception of space is governed by their own psyche; influenced by their social upbringing and lineage. Key to this work is her wish to invite the viewer to peer into the sculptures inner cavities to explore the interior spaces held within and through them to frame external

Artist's notes
The development of this work came from research into language, text and then punctuation and finally repetitive underlining which created multiple lines causing Moiré Pattern, where straight lines appear to visually merge causing optical illusions and disorientation of vision. From my research into Topology you cannot judge the volume or scale of space unless there are points of reference within the space to allow you to make that judgement. In this work, the underlining served to underline and pin point the space. The heat slumping process pulled, stretched and distorted that space maybe suggesting expansion or the emergence of something from within.
Developed alongside 'Space Pods' was a floor piece consisting on aluminium tiles screenprinted with Moiré Pattern which formed a diamond shape and echoed the shape of 'Space Pods' suspended above. This can be seen pictured above. The work was produced with reference to Carl Andre's art which he laid of the floor inviting the viewer to walk upon the art.
Needless to say the work did not survive apart from one tile which has been wall mounted.
